Poem: The Horse

Once, when I was barely a teen,
I rode a horse that almost
Fell down a ravine.
We’d been going around in circles
on a rancher’s farm.
He strong and wild,
And I hearing alarms.
I pulled on the reins
But the horse wouldn’t listen.
At a turn he went straight
for a point in the distance.
The rancher stopped him
By putting up his hands.
And later I thought
Of when I’d be a man.
I’d be brave enough
to save a boy,
who once thought a horse
was just a toy.
